So much of our directing on set comes from a mix of improv games, creating a set where people can take risks and and offering a space where our subjects (and sometimes crew and client) can act silly. We want to move past the typical posing that can happen on a photography set. For this Staples back to school campaign, we cast professional talent mixed with the kids of Staples employees. We wanted the images to be spontaneous, energetic and a little silly; like kids' instagram feeds. Casting talent this way created a kind of magic. The professional models helped the Staples kids perform just a bit and the real kids kept the energy super real and fun.
