BABYMAN BROADCAST STILLS FOR PROGRESSIVE
In between takes, while the broadcast team reviews footage, Progressive’s Baby Man and I get to play a bit. I offer improv games and prompts. This is an opportunity to push his character a bit and take a break from the rehearsed script and directing. We get to be really silly. I like to try new things, take risks and see how much we can connect. It feels like an improv set.
Primarily I work off the broadcast lighting adding in portable hand held strobes as needed. By adding photographic lighting to the images we can elevate them past the standard “lit with video light” feel of so many quick production stills. Portable hand held strobes keeps my team nimble, working around cameras and crew. I learned to light this way on magazine shoots and documentary projects, reading the existing light and adding in light as inspired.
